अ) वय संरचना :
लोकसंख्येचे वयोगटानुसार विभाजन करता येते. सामान्यपणे 0 ते 14 वयोगट व 60 पेक्षा जास्त वयोगट वृद्धांचा (परावलंबी) समजला जातो तर 15 ते 59 वयोगट कार्यक्षम समजला जातो. वय रचनेवरून राज्यात किती श्रमशक्ती उपलब्ध आहे व किती परावलंबी लोकसंख्या आहे याची माहिती मिळते तसेच नियोजन व विविध सुविधा उपलब्ध करण्यासाठी लोकसंख्येची वय रचना माहित असणे आवश्यक असते.
सामान्यपणे जन्मदर, मृत्युदर, स्थलांतर इत्यादी घटकांचा परिणाम वय रचनेवर होतो. इ.स. 2001 च्या जनगणनेनुसार काम करणाऱ्या लोकांचे प्रमाण 42%

मुंबई – पुणे, कोल्हापूर – इचलकरंजी, औरंगाबाद – जालना व नागपूर विभाग या प्रदेशात वाहतूक, उद्योगधंदे, व्यापाऱ यांचा विकास झाल्याने लोकसंख्या दाट आढळते. पश्चिम महाराष्ट्रात जलसिंचन सुविधांमुळे शेतीचा विकास झाला असल्यामुळे तसेच पूर्व महाराष्ट्रातील नागपूर, वर्धा, अमरावती या जिल्ह्यांमध्ये विविध प्रकारच्या खनिजांची उपलब्धता असल्याने तेथे जास्त लोकसंख्या आढळते.
