अ) वय संरचना :
लोकसंख्येचे वयोगटानुसार विभाजन करता येते. सामान्यपणे 0 ते 14 वयोगट व 60 पेक्षा जास्त वयोगट वृद्धांचा (परावलंबी) समजला जातो तर 15 ते 59 वयोगट कार्यक्षम समजला जातो. वय रचनेवरून राज्यात किती श्रमशक्ती उपलब्ध आहे व किती परावलंबी लोकसंख्या आहे याची माहिती मिळते तसेच नियोजन व विविध सुविधा उपलब्ध करण्यासाठी लोकसंख्येची वय रचना माहित असणे आवश्यक असते.
सामान्यपणे जन्मदर, मृत्युदर, स्थलांतर इत्यादी घटकांचा परिणाम वय रचनेवर होतो. इ.स. 2001 च्या जनगणनेनुसार काम करणाऱ्या लोकांचे प्रमाण 42%
